Wisconsin Alcohol Sampling and Tasting Laws
Last checked: November 6, 2026 (DOR Fact Sheet 3106 loaded).
This is not legal advice. It is a plain-English summary of public law. Rules change and local governments often add their own. Verify with the state agency linked below before you plan a tasting.
- At "Class A" liquor retailers, samples are free, two wine samples (3 oz max each) and one spirits sample (one-half ounce max) per person per day, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., with product bought from a permitted wholesaler.
- Samples must be served by licensed operators (bartenders) or servers under the immediate supervision of a licensed operator, the licensee, or an agent of a corporate or LLC licensee.
Verify
operator licenses are issued by the city or village, so check the local clerk.
